The Road and The Rail

Afternoon. I have to make an appointment at the hospital and then visit my aunt's place. After the hospital I take another auto, and we get caught in peak traffic at multiple instances. It is a mad race and everyone wants to get ahead, gain that one more inch. When they can't, they honk.

At one instant, we are almost unmoving in a traffic jam and people are honking incessantly. They want to push the other vehicle a bit ahead, so that they can squeeze in, or I don't know what else they are thinking. Because it makes no sense to me to honk when you know it's a traffic jam.

Total cost: Rs. 200

For my return journey, I take the local train from Secunderabad. A few mins before the train arrives, suddenly the platform is crowded and for a sec you wonder where did all these people come from. The train stops only for a couple of mins, and it's a mad rush to get in. Inside, it's packed, there's hardly a place to stand. Yet, everyone finds their two feet worth ground, a space on the bar to hold on, and settles down. Unlike the road, we are bound by the train, and all of us are in this together. Well, we are on the road too, but here, the train enforces our behavior. And so atleast, there's no madness to get ahead, no insane honking.

Total cost: Rs 3

  2. via road it's about 40-50 mins depending on traffic. Via train it will be an hour but you've to time it right. hyd is getting more routes, but I don't kno how that is going. sample this:http://www.livemint.com/2010/01/31231138/Hyderabad-Metro-rail-project-i.html
